Prevent Frozen Pipes

Don't allow your pipes to turn into pipesicles during frosty autumn and winter nights. Allow a faucet to drip (cold or lukewarm water) when the weather is very cold outside to minimize freezing. Opening both the hot and cold water valves is best. Moving water is much harder to freeze than still water. The temperature of the running water is also above freezing. Leaving water running from the far end of the house (particularly overnight) helps to protect the main water line runs. In your kitchen and bathrooms, open the cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around uninsulated water pipes. Be sure to move any harmful household chemicals/cleaning products up from children and pets. Disconnect and drain garden hoses and wrap pipes with pipe-insulating material, which is available at hardware stores and home centers.
